Homestead Affordable Housing Project

The Town of Mt. Crested Butte has hired Bywater Development to redesign and finalize construction of the Homestead Affordable Housing Project. This project consists of 22 two and three-bedroom deed-restricted residences, ranging in size from 1,150 to 1,600 livable square feet plus attached garages.

Please see the below information for the most recent updates:

  • May 2, 2024: Demolition of the old Homestead foundations and utility work has started and is expected to continue for the next 45 days. The site is considered a construction zone and is dangerous—it includes temporary safety fencing and gates that lock after working hours. If any members of the public enter the site without permission, they will be cited for trespassing due to the dangerous nature of the construction site.
  • May 16, 2024: Demolition of the Homestead foundations is complete and ByWater will continue to do utility work on the site. The retaining wall above the cat track at the back of the subdivision is scheduled to begin the first week of June. Additionally, the property transfer from the Town of Mt. Crested Butte to ByWater Development has closed— they are now the owners of the land.

For more information or questions, please contact the Town of Mt. Crested Butte at info@mtcb.colorado.gov or (970) 349-6632. Construction hours in the Town of Mt. Crested Butte are as follows: Mon-Fri 7 am-7 pm; Sat 7 am-6 pm; Sun 10 am-5 pm.
