Town of Mt. Crested Butte Ballot Issue 2A - Increase the STR Excise tax 2% from 2.9% to a total of 4.9%

The 4.9% STR Excise tax go into affect on January 1, 2024. All short term rental reservations that arrive on or after January 1, 2025 will have to pay the 4.9% STR excise tax. These funds go to affordable housing.
Campaign Finance
All candidates for office are expected to follow the Colorado Fair Campaign and Finance Act. Only the most common forms are posted on the Town's website. For other forms go to: https://www.sos.state.co.us/pubs/elections/CampaignFinance/home.html.
All forms must be filed with the Mt. Crested Butte Town Clerk. Do NOT file them with the Colorado Secretary of State.

Qualification for Office:
Section F of the Mt. Crested Butte Town Charter states that “Each council member when nominated and elected shall be a citizen of the United States; a registered elector of the Town of Mt. Crested Butte and shall have resided in the town or any territory thereafter annexed for one (1) year immediately preceding such election. The election commission shall be the judge of election and the qualifications of the council.”
Other Important Information:
- It is recommend attending a few council meetings to understand the current topics the council is working on. They meet the first and third Tuesday of the month at 6pm. All Town Council agendas, minutes and packets can be found here: https://mtcrestedbuttecolorado.civicweb.net/portal/
- Council meetings start at 6pm. If there is a work session the meeting usually starts at 4 or 5pm, depending on the topic.
The Councilors also represent the Town on various boards and committees. The Town has representatives on the following:

- Crested Butte/ Mt. Crested Butte Chamber of Commerce

- Downtown Development Authority Board

- Region 10
- Gunnison Valley Land Preser4vation Board
- Tourism Associations Advisory Board
- Crested Butte Center for the Arts.
You can expect to spend 10 to 15 hours a month on Council business.
Councilors get paid $700 per month and the mayor gets paid $1200 per month.
