Downtown Development Authority (DDA)

The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) was formed to provide guidance for future development within the area designated as the Downtown area of Mt. Crested Butte. The DDA consists of seven members appointed by Town Council including local business owners and/or residents. The term of an appointed member is four years except in the case of the appointed Town Council member term, which runs concurrently with their term on Council.

In 2000, the DDA published the Downtown Development Authority Architectural and Site Design Standards which defines development standards for the zoning area designated under the jurisdiction of the DDA.

DDA Grants

The DDA can assist with grants for the development of the DDA district, and be of special benefit to the property within the boundaries of the district. The DDA grant application process applies to any proposed projects to promote and support private development within the district. DDA grant-funded projects include the development of public facilities and other improvements to public or private property, which in the opinion of the DDA, will aid and improve the downtown development area. DDA grant-funded projects are intended to spur new development within the DDA district that would not otherwise occur without DDA assistance.

Project requests must be consistent with DDA priority goals and objectives, and deliver a clear public benefit.  The DDA will evaluate proposed projects and financial assistance against the following DDA criteria:

  1. Applicant’s project is highly desirable, and
  2. Applicant’s project is consistent with the plans and objectives of the DDA, and
  3. Applicant’s project may not be otherwise economically viable without DDA funding

An applicant can apply at any time, as there are no scheduled deadlines to request DDA grant funding.  Before submitting an application with the Town you must contact the Capital Projects Manager first.  Please email Jeff Smith at jsmith@mtcb.colorado.gov
