Dog Registration

The town of Mt. Crested Butte requires your dog to be registered. Proof of rabies vaccination will be required to register your dog. Fees to register are $5 if the dog has been spayed or neutered or $20 if they have not. Licenses are not transferable and are non-refundable.

To obtain a dog license you have a few options:

Option 1:
Stop by the office, fill out the registration form, provide a vaccination record, and pay in person.

Option 2:
Fill out the registration form and email it to police@mtcbpd.us along with your vaccination record and pay in person.

Option 3:
Fill out the registration form and email it to police@mtcbpd.us along with your vaccination record and mail cash or check to:

You will need to work out the logistics of picking up the dog tag with Maddie and/or have us send it via mail if option 3 works best for you.

Animal Ordinances in Mt. Crested Butte

Dog At-Large
In the town limits of Mt. Crested Butte, all dogs must be on a leash or under voice command. The owner of a dog running at large will be ticketed for being in violation of this.

Liability of Owner
A dog owner can also be cited for "liability of owner" (MTCBTC-4-17) when their dog is obstructing a pedestrian, bicyclist, or motor vehicle upon any public way or area. It is also a violation of this section of the Town Code to allow a dog to bark or otherwise interfere with another's rights.

It is illegal to commit a cruel or inhumane action against a dog.
