Welcome to Mt. Crested Butte

The town of Mt. Crested Butte is nestled among the breathtaking Elk Mountains in western Colorado. Sitting at 9,375 feet above sea level, Mt. Crested Butte is home to around 800 year-round and part-time residents. Our namesake mountain rises just above town to a height of 12,162 feet. This unique setting affords some of the most breathtaking vistas in Colorado.


Located within Gunnison County, Mt. Crested Butte is located 31 miles north of the city of Gunnison, Colorado, on Highway 135, and just two miles north of the town of Crested Butte.

2025 Summer MTCB Events

We are so excited for another fun, event-filled summer in the Town of Mt. Crested Butte! Below are more details about the amazing events we have planned for you this summer.

GreenDeed Energy Efficiency Upgrade Program for Deed-Restricted Residences - MTCB

The Town of Mt. Crested Butte has partnered with GV-HEAT to administer the GreenDeed Energy Efficiency Upgrade Program for deed-restricted residences. GV-HEAT is the Gunnison Valley Home Energy Advancement Team, managed by the Gunnison Valley Regional Housing Authority (GVRHA), which seeks to make households in the Gunnison Valley more efficient, affordable, and safe.

Recreation Path Closure Update

The lower half of the recreation path between the Town of Mt. Crested Butte and the Town of Crested Butte will remain closed until further notice. The Town of Mt. Crested Butte is working on snow removal and maintenance to ensure safety before opening the first week of May.
