The Recreational Path
The "Rec" path is a paved pedestrian/bike path that connects the Town of Mt. Crested Butte to the Town of Crested Butte. The path starts in Crested Butte and ends at Snodgrass trailhead on the east side of Gothic Road.
The path features a series of interpretive plaques that provide information on the geology, history, and biology of the area. The plaque series was a Centennial project of the Rotary Club of Mt. Crested Butte/Crested Butte and was presented to the town as a special gift.
The path is owned and maintained by the Town of Mt. Crested Butte. In the winter, through a mutual agreement with the Crested Butte Nordic Center, part of the path is groomed for nordic skiing. Groomed access starts at the "Welcome to Mt. Crested Butte" sign into Crested Butte proper, ending at the wetlands footbridge.
