Mt. Crested Butte AMI Restricted Rebate Program

Restricted AMI E-Bike Rebates:

The Town of Mt. Crested Butte received a $50,000 grant from the State of Colorado to offer e-bike rebates to low and moderate-income residents. The Town is providing $25,000 of its own funding to this program. Here is a link to the AMI 2023 Table.


Rebate Amount:  
- 80% or less of AMI - $1,500 per e-bike.  
- 81-100% of AMI – $1,000 per e-bike

The rebate amount cannot exceed the cost of the e-bike.

Requirements:
The following documents or evidence must be submitted in order to get your rebate:

  • Evidence of Mt. Crested Butte full-time residency
  • Proof of Income.  If there are multiple people in your tax household you will need to provide the income information for everyone.  For example: a husband and wife who file jointly on their tax return will need to both supply their paystubs for one person applying for the rebate.
    • (Provide one of the following):
      • Two months of paystubs;
      • 2022 or 2023 Federal Tax Return; or
      • Two months of bank statements
  • Receipt of the e-bike purchased after May 7, 2024
  • Specification of the e-bike, including the class, max watts, and max speed. The State of Colorado requires a sticker on all e-bikes sold in the state to show this information. Please submit a picture of this sticker on your e-bike to meet this requirement.

  • Must be willing to:
    • Submit a monthly statement stating how many miles you used your e-bike for six months; and
    • Must answer a survey at the end of September
  • Rebate requests must be received within 90 days of the date of purchase
  • Rebate cannot be stacked with the State of Colorado’s e-bike rebate
  • The maximum retail price for the e-bike cannot exceed:
    • $5,000 for e-bike 
    • $8,500 for e-cargo bike or adaptive e-bike

Mt. Crested Butte Residence Requirements
This rebate program is for full-time Mt. Crested Butte residents only. You must provide one of the following:

  • Colorado Driver’s License or identification card with a Mt. Crested Butte address
  • The resident must be at least 18 years of age
  • Voter Registration

Qualifying E-Bikes:
New e-bike, Class 1, 2 or 3.  E-bike must be new to qualify for rebate; no used, reconditioned, or aftermarket bikes are eligible. Only e-bikes that meet the definition of a Class 1, 2, or 3 “electrical assisted bicycle” as defined at C.R.S. § 42-1-102 are eligible. An e-bike which does not have affixed to its frame the manufacturer’s label required by C.R.S. § 42-4-221 is not rebate eligible. An applicant must provide evidence of a purchased e-bike’s rebate eligibility.


Electric mountain bikes are not eligible.  If an e-bike has full suspension then it is considered an e-mountain bike and will not receive the rebate,  Please email Tiffany O'Connell at toconnell@mtcb.colorado.gov with any questions.  Email is the fastest way to get a response.

Please upload four documents:
1. Receipt of purchase for your e-bike
2. Documentation of residency (copy of driver's license listing your Mt. Crested Butte address).  If you cannot provide this please contact Tiffany O’Connell at toconnell@mtcb.colorado.gov
3. Picture of your e-bike including the required sticker on the e-bike.  The sticker must show the Class, Max Watts, and Max Speed of the E-bike. This sticker is required on all bikes sold in Colorado per C.R.S. 42-4-221. If you do not have a sticker on your e-bike then it is not eligible for a rebate.
4. Proof of income by providing one of the following: Two months of pay stubs, a 2022 or 2023 Federal Tax Return, or two months of bank statements.
