The Valley Housing Fund awarded the Town of Mt. Crested Butte a $100,000 grant for to the Homestead Community Housing Development. This funding will help accelerate the completion of Phase 2 of the neighborhood, which includes 22 deed-restricted homes for local individuals and families to own. This grant is part of the Valley Housing Fund’s ongoing commitment to support housing solutions that strengthen the Gunnison Valley community.
“It’s energizing to offer support to this project just as we’re seeing it take shape,” said Valley Housing Fund Board Member Halley Anderson. “Homestead is helping to fill a clear need in the Valley, as the interest level exceeded the unit count. I imagine this neighborhood will soon be a tight-knit community of neighbors that own a quality home and, most importantly, have finally found stability.”
The Town of Mt. Crested Butte applied to VHF’s Partner Support Program in December 2024, and the application was reviewed based on criteria including alignment with regional housing needs, commitment to sustainability and accessibility, and likelihood of success, among other factors.
A large check was presented at the Mt. Crested Butte Town Council meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 18. Mayor Nicholas Kempin shared that “Mt. Crested Butte is grateful to the Valley Housing Fund and its supporters for their contribution to the Homestead Community Housing project, and all the important work they do on the critical issue of housing. Thank you for supporting the hardworking members of our valley.”
Affordable housing projects often face challenges like funding gaps, weather delays, and shifting timelines. By providing timely funding and support, the Valley Housing Fund helps projects like Homestead navigate these obstacles and continue moving forward.
“We’re proud to support this neighborhood and we look forward to seeing families move in later this year,” added VHF Executive Director Lauren Koelliker.
